 Science Methods II Week 2 Grace Stutting The big question addressed in lab, and a description of what you did. "How can we ensure that a race is exciting?" We were able to go off this question in a fun way! We as table groups were able to come up with diverse ideas to ensure a race that included a sorts of ways would be fun and exciting. We were able to use things like running, walking, rolling in a chair, crawling, speed walking or whatever mode of transportation.  This was a very important lab because we were able to create a way that there is still excitement in races when it is evident that not all people are the same speed when running.  A description of what you learned in Thursday's lecture.  Week 15 Blog Post:  What did you learn this week? We learned about pressure in a syringe using marshmallows and saw they they get all wrily when we take away that pressure and get back to normal when we add pressure.  We also saw a reaction from baking soda and vinegar that was very cool. We added the two to a bad and saw the bag fill with air as well as staying the same weight even when the substance was changed from a power and liquid to a gas.  lastly, we learned about observation when it comes to predicting what items are in a sealed case by the noise, magnetism and weight. When we figured this all out we were able to match up with someone else that ended up having the same item as me.  How can you apply what you've learned to your teaching in the future? Yes! Blog Post Week 14 Grace Stutting Flip Book During class we made flip books. This was a very good activity for all ages because we are able to see how things work in science without having to conduct the actual experiment.  I think I will use this in my future classroom because it is easy and fun to do and students can be creative. It also allows students to look at their peers flip books which is beneficial in times of studying, revision and before experiments.  Something I did find confusing was making the flipbook and including the molecule images. I just feel like I am not really strong in that factor but with a little more research and teaching I feel I will be just fine.

 Week 13 Blog  Grace Stutting What did you learn this week?  Asking why not what. We learned the importance of asking why in science rather than what something is but how and why it is what it is. We also learned about models and how they are crucial for our students learning science. We did an experiment using M&Ms which was very fun, we learned why the colors melt off in water. It was also very important that we learned about the Particle theory of Matter and asking questions. Lastly, I learned the significance of using models, keys and explanations and how we can teach our students.  Which parts did you find clear and which were confusing? I found it very important but also confusing learning that there are no definite answers in science. This was unfamiliar to me because when I was growing up doing science there was always answers that had to be right or wrong. Of course this makes sense now and we can still teach how to scientific experiments  but there...

 Week 12 Blog Science Methods 1 Grace Stutting How can you apply what you've learned to your teaching in the future? I will definitely use then activities we used today in my future classroom. I thought they were well thought out and definitely beneficial because our teacher used them in his own classroom.  I will also use the type of charts we learned about because it makes our students able to visually see the work they did as they conduct experiments.  What did you learn this week? We learned about the issues that come from measuring things because of skewed rulers, items and so on. This was very new to me because I always grew up with science having exact answers which is not always the case.  We learned about mass, volume, magnetisms, electricity and if items sink or float. This was very helpful for me because many of the outcomes surprised me. I did not think any of our items would cause electricity or light to occur but many ...

WEEK 11 BLOG What did you learn this week? This week we did many different experiments that were all about physical science. One of the activities we did was putting m&ms in water and seeing what happened. This entire class was about being good observers which is very important in the elementary classrooms. I learned how important it is to notice things, why they are happening and what it means.  Which parts did you find clear and which were confusing? I was confused with why some things did what they did. Like during the ice melting activity I was positive it would melt faster on wood and when we did it it melted way fasted on the metal. I still do not know why that happened. I found it very clear when we did the activity with the plunger just because that makes sense to me previously.  How can you apply what you've learned to your teaching in the future? I will for sure use these activities in my future classroom. I learned so much more by doing experiments...

Week 9 Blog

 This week we learned about Natural Selection.  Natural selection does is saying how living things survive best when they are able to adapt for their environment not just the strongest or the smartest.  The activity we did was using different utensils to try and pick up the different colored seeds. This showed that using either a fork, stick or spoon can pick up more or less that the others.  This is a great activity that I will be using in my future classroom, I was almost positive the spoon would pick up the most but it was the fork!
