Grace Stutting

What did you learn this week?

Asking why not what. We learned the importance of asking why in science rather than what something is but how and why it is what it is. We also learned about models and how they are crucial for our students learning science. We did an experiment using M&Ms which was very fun, we learned why the colors melt off in water. It was also very important that we learned about the Particle theory of Matter and asking questions. Lastly, I learned the significance of using models, keys and explanations and how we can teach our students.

Which parts did you find clear and which were confusing?

I found it very important but also confusing learning that there are no definite answers in science. This was unfamiliar to me because when I was growing up doing science there was always answers that had to be right or wrong. Of course this makes sense now and we can still teach how to scientific experiments but there are always possible variables.

How can you apply what you've learned to your teaching in the future?

I will use these experiments in my future classroom because not only did we learn so much putting M&Ms in different variables like ice water and hot water but also it was fun and engaging!
