Grace Stutting

  • What did you learn this week?

This week we learned about living things. 
We dissected seeds and found the seed coat, embryo, cotyledon. 
These are the seeds cut open exposing the embryo and cotyledon.

We also learned the different characteristics of living things and how they funtion.

  • How can you apply what you've learned to your teaching in the future?
We can use these in our future lesson plans because seeds are easy to use, they were easy to open and see the different parts of. We also can find new lesson plans like this because living things are all around us. We can hatch chicks, plants seeds and simply watch nature and how it changes over time. 
  • What are new or remaining questions? 
I would love to see lesson plans and how students are evaluated. 
I would also like to see how quickly living things like plants change over time. 
I am very excited to see our seeds next lab!

    Hi Grace!
    I agree that utilizing lesson plans like seed dissections within our classrooms will be most crucial when engaging our students. I also appreciated the simplicity of the lessons. I enjoyed how you included some of your own thoughts and ideas about further lesson plans that could be recreated within the classroom. Overall, you did a great job formulating your thoughts and ideas :)

    Hey Grace! I also would love to see lesson plans and how students are evaluated. Now that we're learning more about the NGSS, I think it'd be really helpful for us to see some examples of lesson plans that utilize them well and lesson plans that don't use them or don't execute them very well. I'm also excited to see our seeds during our next classes!

We were able to go off this question in a fun way! We as table groups were able to come up with diverse ideas to ensure a race that included a sorts of ways would be fun and exciting. Methods 2 Week 5

 Week 5 Blog Post  1. The big question addressed and what you did in lab? How can we design a playground surface?                                             (Not sure if these videos will work but they are our slow motion videos of our experiments!)  We used different material to make a surface for an egg to land and not break.  We used rubber pieces, sand and seran wrap.  It worked from one meter up but broke when dropping at 2 meters. This was because our surface area was smaller, and it had more length to drop creating more energy making it bounce off/ out of the bowl landing on the hard floor causing it to break.  Small light thing hitting big heavy thing stays equal forces.  Forces are equal but thing that is bigger will take it better, EX. big car little car crash, bug hitting a moving car, etc.  Newtons 3rd Law: Objects exert forces on each other that are equal in magnitude and opposite direction.  - Forces come in equal parts. Methods 2 week 14

  The big question addressed in lab, and a description of what you did. We went over our interviews with elders.  We watched a video called, "The science of Climate change"  During this video we saw the CO2 levels rise and fall throughout the past and now on a constant uprise. Greenhouse gas is a gas that absorbs and then reemits.  We did a simulation looking at greenhouse gasses and its effect.  A description of what you learned in Thursday's lecture. We learned about climate change: Lakes are calm at night because of albedo.   White reflects sunlight. Black absorbs light. Snow reflects more, color absorbs more.   Informed molecules vibrate, trapping energy.   Climate science is all about energy.   A lab that can be done with kids is having different containers that are different colors and seeing which one melts faster.   Albedo is measured 0 to 1. 1 is totally reflective 0 is totally absorbed.   Turf is hotter than natural grass.   Glaciers melt then there is dark wate
