Week 9 Blog

This week we learned about Natural Selection.  Natural selection does is saying how living things survive best when they are able to adapt for their environment not just the strongest or the smartest.  The activity we did was using different utensils to try and pick up the different colored seeds. This showed that using either a fork, stick or spoon can pick up more or less that the others.  This is a great activity that I will be using in my future classroom, I was almost positive the spoon would pick up the most but it was the fork!

WEEK 8 BLOG Plant Update: They are looking a little sad, I would say they are lacking some water or some form of nutrients because they are crunchy. I still believe this is a great way to teach students about plants and living things and will do it in the future when I am a teacher! During lab this week we also learned about DNA and how the pair together with AUCG. The different pairing together create different outcomes. This simulator was very useful! I think by looking at dominate and recessive genes our students are able to learn so much because it directly relates to us as individuals. I thought it was so cool learning the reasoning behind what we look like!

WEEK 7 BLOG

I was sadly absent this week but when going through the modules and talking to classmates I was enlightened to know we learned more about DNA.  DNA is a very important concept for people to learn because it teaches us about ourselves and others and why we are the way we are.  I believe that using different methods like candy to make a double helix DNA strand, students will be even more intrigued to learn.  In the future when I am a teacher I will also use fun and exciting tools and activities to teach challanging concepts such as, DNA.
